“Mechanical Engineering: the Final Frontier for Women in STEM”
This talk is an informal discussion on possible reasons for the persistence of low female enrollment in Mechanical Engineering. We will discuss some incorrect perceptions about the Mechanical Engineering profession, and why these perceptions persist to this day.
Dr. Carlos F. Coimbra is an Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCSD, and the Faculty Director of the IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Excellence and Advancement) Student Center at the Jacobs School of Engineering.
Dr. Coimbra “explores the intersection between experimental, theoretical and fieldwork methods to analyze and develop new technologies to harvest solar power in its diverse forms.”
